  • 11 Facts On Recycling

Posted on May 14, 2013 by admin

    1. The average person generates over 4 pounds of trash every day and about 1.5 tons of solid waste per year.

    2. In 2009, Americans produced enough trash to circle the Earth 24 times.

    3. Over 75% of waste is recyclable, but we only recycle about 30% of it.

    4. We generate 21.5 million tons of food waste each year. If we composted that food, it would reduce the same amount of greenhouse gas as taking 2 million cars off the road.

    5. Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to listen to a full album on your iPod. Recycling 100 cans could light your bedroom for two whole weeks.

    6. Recycling aluminum cans saves 95% of the energy used to make alum cans from new material.

    7. Americans throw away 25,000,000 plastic bottles every hour.

    8. Over 87% of Americans have access to curbside or drop-off paper recycling programs.

    9. In 2009, Americans threw away almost 9 million tons of glass. That could fill enough tractor trailers to stretch from NYC to LA (and back!).

    10. In 2010, paper recycling had increased over 89% since 1990.

    11. If every American recycled just one-tenth of their newspapers, we could save about 25 million trees each year.

Litter is trashy. Clean up your act - er, neighborhood.

“Eco-friendly apparel brand Dirtball partners with IMBA for Trash for Trails Fundraiser.”

For Immediate Release: Hickory, N.C. (March 20, 2013) – Eco-friendly, made in U.S.A. apparel brand Dirtball has partnered with IMBA (The International Mountain Biking Association) to help raise money for IMBA’s Trail Building Fund with the Trash for Trails Fundraiser.  For the Trash for Trails program Dirtball has created a limited edition shirt in which $10 from each sale will go directly to IMBA’s Trail Building Fund. The unique name of the fundraiser comes directly from Dirtball’s DNA. Every product in Dirtball’s apparel line is constructed from recycled content. The Trash For Trails T-shirt is made from 50% recycled cotton and 50% recycled water bottles. Each t-shirt contains 6.5 recycled water bottles in its make up and is made in the U.S.A. further lowering the shirts carbon footprint.

IMBA is at the forefront on sustainable trail design and this year the crews will be busy building fun trails for every riding style and ability throughout the United States and the World. From massive destination trail systems, to flowing ribbons of forest singletrack, to downhill courses and urban bike parks —  these trails will be resources for communities of mountain bikers for decades to come.

“We are excited about working with IMBA to help raise funds for more and better trails. The trails help to encourage people to get outside and also to help preserve the environment”, stated Joe Fox President of Dirtball. “Their sustainability focus and our brand DNA are a natural fit which we saw last year when we launched our first mountain bike series, The Pedal To The People Tour. The tour is back for its second year and we decided along with it to partner with IMBA and increase our support to the mountain biking community.”
